Bishop Visitation

This  fun and handy booklet is a teaching tool that can be used to create an enjoyable encounter for young people (and adults) when visiting with the Bishop. It provides activities and insider information.

Hear the Word of the Lord

Originally delivered at the Network of Biblical Storytellers, this presentation is great for developing lay readers.  It teaches basic voice exercises and some practical advice so that you don’t end up with a crowded manger!

Becoming Whole

I was asked specifically to lead a retreat on how to deal with difficult behaviors.  Rooting our time in the story of Zacchaeus, I examined how we identify others and make assumptions about them.  I had retreatants engage on a reflective walk with stations such as Man in the Mirrorand a make your piece of the puzzle. A privilege walk was included and a quiet safe space set up for participants to respond to their discoveries. The final liturgy embraced our differences and ended with a large puzzle, with all our pieces, fitting together.

Retreat: Reflections on the Cross

This retreat shares the history of the cross from a symbol of shame to a triumphant sign.  Participants learn about the influence of Dante and why some denominations prefer crosses with the body of Christ. This retreat culminated in the construction of a large papier mache cross.  The cross was presented after the reading of the Passion on Palm Sunday/Passion Sunday and a crown of thorns was place on it.  On Maundy Thursday a simple pitcher and bowl was placed at the foot of the cross. For Good Friday the cross was painted black and the crown returned.  When the lights came on and the “Alleulia” rang out at the Easter Vigil, the cross, now spray painted gold, was covered with butterflies.

Retreat: Living the Way of Life

Retreats are a dedicated time to come away with God and to strengthen our spiritual life.  This is a retreat designed to help others enter more fully into the events and liturgies of Holy Week and with special attention to the Tri-duum. This retreat covered the origin of the Way of the Cross, the Gospel accounts, and how our liturgies reflect the journey of Jesus from Palm Sunday to Easter.  Designed especially for the Worship Committee, it offers ways to enhance worship experiences through aesthetics and parishioner involved projects.  The result was not only a larger attendance throughout the Three Holy Days, but the transformation of the Good Friday Cross (which the parishioners nailed their sins to) to a glittering cross filled with the origami butterflies made on retreat. The Tri-duum walk was so well received that retreatants lobbied to have it left up for the next three weeks so that the wide parish could enter into the way that leads to life.
